Bodywash share "La Renommée," third cut from Laughing At Noise

The Montreal dream-pop duo trace the song to Kim Gordon's memoir and a winged statue in a city park. The album lands 11/20 on Light Organ.

Bodywash released "La Renommée," the third song from their album Laughing At Noise, out 11/20 on Light Organ. The Montreal dream-pop duo had already shared "Come And Go" and "Lapsang," the second of which landed on a widely read list of the week's five best songs.

Chris Steward wrote the track while reading Kim Gordon's autobiography and listening to EVOL-era Sonic Youth. He wanted "the same hushed sense of urgency," he said, and he credits the first verse's drums more than he expected: "Had no idea the bossa nova-inspired first verse drums would pan out as well as they did."

Long Decter split the lyrics in two: half a fictional bartender, half the real winged statue in Jeanne Mance Parc. Kasia Van Schaik's book Women Among Monuments put that figure in her head. The bartender and the statue are maybe the same, standing over the city from a fixed perch.

Laughing At Noise is out 11/20 on Light Organ. Nothing else on the record has been announced beyond those three songs.
