Clean Feed closes after 25 years and 800 releases

Portuguese jazz label Clean Feed is shutting down, leaving a catalog that shaped modern jazz.

Clean Feed, the Lisbon-based jazz label, is closing after 25 years. Founded by Pedro Costa in 2001, the label released over 800 albums, including sister imprints Trem Azul and Shhpuma. Costa announced the news on August 27, 2026.

Clean Feed started with At Seixal in early 2001, after Costa's years in record shops since 1989. The label became known for original CD artwork by Rui Garrido and Travassos. It also ran festivals in New York and Portugal. Costa's goal, he said, was to record jazz that can only be made today.

The label's final batch of releases is not yet specified. Costa left a parting thought: he saw the world as a global scene with many accents. Someone will pick up where he left off.
