Glenn Richards, the songwriter behind Augie March, will release a new album with his backing band The Venus Lakes. The Great Behind is out 6 October 2026 on IN.2 Records. The Venus Lakes are credited as the band, with guitarist Chris Richards, bassist Louis Till, drummer Beau Thomas and keyboardist and lap steel player Jethro Pickett behind him.

Augie March's 2006 album Moo, You Bloody Choir took the Australian Music Prize and carried 'One Crowded Hour'. In 2008 Johnny Depp found the band, and later signed Richards to his IN.2 label. Here Depp adds close vocal harmonies to 'Cold Hands, Warm Heart'. Richards last released solo material as Glimjack in 2010.

The Great Behind opens on 'Pest', which locks into an almost Krautrock groove, and the title track runs D.H. Lawrence and T.E. Lawrence through each other, working off the former's 1923 novel Kangaroo. Richards has one line summing up the whole job: 'Kill me if I ever start in on the stuff of life.'
