Hang Linton maps the DIY route to Decolonise Fest

Hang Linton plays Decolonise Fest. Ahead of it, the Leeds DIY punk sat down for an interview published the morning of 28 September 2026, covering the debut EP Demonstrations and the road that got them here: London first, then Berlin, Hanoi and Cambridge.

The Berlin stretch is the sharpest part of the story. Linton worked at a call centre, made beats and busked at night, and spent the first paycheck on a little amp with a microphone. Then came the street performing network, playing everything from techno to hip hop. Leaving London was deliberate: "I knew I wanted to try this somewhere where I'm not known." On the record, 'Wishbones' slots in at track two, its lyric turning over and over: "There must be some kind of way out of here / There must be some kind of way to the new day."

Linton is clear about scale, too: "nowadays, everybody's DIY," but "the onus is still on you." No label swoops in. What's next: only the Decolonise Fest appearance has been announced.
