Harry Styles debuts tribute song for Liam Payne at Madison Square Garden
Two years after Payne's death, Styles played a song written for his friend and put his 30-night residency in the middle of it.
BY JOLT Staff · Oct 18 2026 · 1 min readHarry Styles played a new song for Liam Payne at Madison Square Garden on Friday, the second anniversary of Payne's death. He introduced it by name: "What Is Enough," a song he said he wrote for his friend about two years ago. "Two years ago today, I lost one of those friends," he told the crowd, before asking, "if that's all right."
The setting carried its own weight. "I feel incredibly lucky to get to play these shows here in New York, and this building means a lot to me," Styles said. He is midway through a 30-night residency at the Garden, and Friday was not a night off from it.
The song has no release announced. No album, no single date. For now the only place it exists is that room, though a planned documentary may hand it a wider audience: John Wilson has been filming with Styles since the residency began in August, for a hybrid of live performances and a glimpse into Styles' world. A theatrical release is possible. Nothing is confirmed.
