The driver of Indigo Girls' tour bus was killed Friday morning in a crash on Interstate 20 in Richland County, South Carolina. The band identified him as Kirk. He was alone on the bus when it collided with a disabled tractor-trailer around 6:00 a.m. local time. No band or crew members were onboard. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Kirk had driven for the duo over years of touring. "Kirk was an integral part of our life on the road," the band said. "He shepherded us safely across thousands of miles, through every season and all kinds of weather. He was a joyful constant in our lives, and we will miss him dearly."

Indigo Girls cancelled their Saturday night show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Decisions about dates in Wilmington, North Carolina; Ponte Vedra, Florida; and Sugar Land, Texas will be announced in the coming days. "The tour will resume as soon as we are ready and able," the band said.
