Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith drops jungle turn Ruin: It's Not Just Music

The Los Angeles electronic artist leaves the lush vocals of 2025's GUSH behind for breaks past 170 BPM.

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith released Ruin: It's Not Just Music on October 1, a record built on jungle, drum & bass and future garage. Apple lists it as out the following day, October 2. Smith is based in Los Angeles.

It lands a year after GUSH, described then as synesthesia-inspired, vocal-forward and lush. Ruin goes the other way. Most songs push past 170 BPM, and the supplementary title is woven through the tracklist rather than hung on the cover alone.

'Sonic combat,' Smith has called the project. That fits the two tracks identified so far. 'That Is Like You' rides an iridescent groove before snapping into abrasive post-dubstep. 'I'm Just Being Honest' sets clattering percussion against cut-up sampling in the Todd Edwards mode.

Those two tracks and the full tracklist are streaming now. No label is named on the release, and no tour dates are attached.
