Marc Ribot gets the full-career treatment from Bandcamp Daily

A profile traces the guitarist from Newark childhood lessons with Frantz Casseus through session work, the Lounge Lizards and his own bands.

Bandcamp Daily published a profile of guitarist Marc Ribot on October 12, 2026, tracing his life and career in full. Ribot was born in Newark in 1954 and studied guitar as a child with Frantz Casseus, the Haitian classical guitar master.

The feature runs through the resume: a stretch in John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, session work that reshaped Tom Waits's 1985 album Rain Dogs, and collaborations with John Zorn, David Bowie, Wilson Pickett, Allen Ginsberg, Elvis Costello, Madeleine Peyroux and Mike Patton. Lurie, asked about him, called Ribot "a musical genius" and added that the ideas coming out of him are "actually often a problem."

Ribot's own records started in 1990 with his band the Rootless Cosmopolitans. Requiem for What's-His-Name followed in 1992, their second. He has also written a book, Unstrung: Rants and Stories of a Noise Guitarist.

The profile is a retrospective, not an announcement. No new album or tour dates are part of it.
