Omni's Philip Frobos covers Sorry and Jane Birkin
The Atlanta post-punk bassist drops two solo covers, both built on dual drumming and tracked by Rodrigo Avendaño.
BY JOLT Staff · Oct 2 2026 · 1 min readOmni's Philip Frobos shared two solo covers on October 1: Sorry's 2024 song "Waxwing" and Jane Birkin's 1973 track "Kawasaki." Both were recorded by Rodrigo Avendaño at his studio in Atlanta, GA and mastered by Andy Clarke. No label is attached.
"Both covers feature dual drumming from Rodrigo Avendaño (Soccer Mommy) and Jonah Swilley (Revival Season, Mattiel)," Frobos says. It is an Omni-adjacent cast: Frobos has spent years in the Atlanta post-punk band, whose debut Deluxe is getting a deluxe edition for its anniversary, followed by Souvenir in 2024.
The two tracks are odd companions by era but not by temperament. "'Kawasaki' shares similar themes that come from a different place and time of societal rejection, apathy, and nihilism," Frobos says, quoting his years-long affection for Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsbourg, and Jean-Claude Vannier. Sorry's "Waxwing" came first to him the way it came to a lot of people: a single press cycle.
