Sabrina Carpenter cast as Ginger Rogers in Fred Astaire biopic

Sabrina Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers in Paul King's Fred Astaire biopic. Tom Holland is Astaire; Margaret Qualley is Adele Astaire, his sister and first dance partner. The casting was confirmed September 26, 2026.

Carpenter came up as an actress on the Disney sitcom Girl Meets World before Short N' Sweet and Man's Best Friend made her one of pop's biggest sellers. This is a return to the other half of the job, on a much bigger set.

King, who directs, said he could not imagine the film without Holland, Qualley and Carpenter, and called the material a cinematic challenge partly because no footage of Adele Astaire dancing survives. Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor produce. No release date, shoot start or further casting has been announced.
