Star Moles sign to Dead Oceans and share "Born Again"

Emily Moales' Philly project joins the label and drops a new single, plus a Highway to Hell vinyl reissue.

Star Moles, the project of Philly-based New Hampshire native Emily Moales, has signed to Dead Oceans and released a new single, "Born Again." The signing and single arrive October 7, with a vinyl reissue of her fifth album, Highway to Hell, also announced.

"Born Again" was recorded with Kevin Basko of Rubber Band Gun at his Historic New Jersey studio. Lucky Marvel directed the video. In a statement, Moales said the song is "a painting of real frustration" and that its truth comes through rhetoric rather than narrative: "I wouldn't say I'm religious, but I think sometimes my emotions are."

That framing fits a decade-long run of releases, though Highway to Hell is where most listeners got on board, and Jeff Tweedy covered her. On Dead Oceans she joins labelmates Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski.

Upcoming shows include Good Moon Festival in Durham on 10/09, Philadelphia's The Foundry at The Fillmore on 10/10, and Washington, DC's The Atlantis on 10/12, plus London and Paris festival dates in November and a stretch through the Midwest and Northeast into early 2027.
