Stef Chura returns after seven years with Dancing Alone on the Concrete
Detroit songwriter plugs in the piano and calls in Peter Buck and Mike Mills for "Danny."
BY JOLT Staff · Oct 4 2026 · 1 min readStef Chura announced Dancing Alone on the Concrete, her first album in seven years, released October 2, 2026. Bandcamp Daily named it Album of the Day. It is her third full-length. Vinyl, CD, and cassette pre-orders are open now.
The Detroit songwriter has lived in New Orleans and Louisville, then came back to Detroit. Her early underground hit Messes came with help from Robert Schneider of The Apples In Stereo. The new songs leave the guitar alone sometimes: piano carries them. "Danny" brings Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. into the room, and the track runs on Motown horns and country vibrato. Chura's lyrics keep the domestic and the restless in the same line: "I want to be in love / I want to go home happy." Also on the record: "Lovesick," "Thunder and Lightning," "Be My Hound," and "Leadweight."
The pre-order covers Vinyl LP, Compact Disc, and Cassette, and the album is streaming now.
