Against All Odds: Gucci Mane makes his case at track twelve

Album eighteen is 17 songs at one temperature until "Priorities" opens a window. The best of Gucci Mane in 2026 sits in the last six tracks.

Against All Odds is Gucci Mane's eighteenth album, and its best argument is buried at track twelve. Seventeen songs, 52 minutes, out now on 1017 Global Music and Atlantic, and for the first two thirds of it the temperature never moves: unbothered and loud, addressed to whoever doubted him. Then "Priorities" arrives and the record admits what the calm costs.

The career explains the shape. A first run in the mid-2000s, a resurgence after prison in the mid-2010s, then a stretch of elder statesman work, one roadblock cleared after another. Against All Odds follows Breath of Fresh Air (2023), Greatest of All Trappers (2024) and Episodes (2025). The Apple Music listing puts it at eighteen albums deep, and the through-line is obstacles: a long demonstration of clearing one and finding the next.

“Rather watch my children smile than put another opp to sleep/I got too much on the line, I can’t let emotions creep.”
GUCCI MANE, ON "PRIORITIES"

Seventeen songs in 52 minutes works out to a hair over three minutes each, and only one track is allowed past four: "Last night in ATL", with Summer Walker, at 4:15. The other features are ICE DAVIS on "Priorities" and OJ da Juiceman on "Lambo pass by". Three guests across 17 tracks tells you how much company this album wants.

The sound is retro and anthemic, and it is strongest when it reaches backwards. "Back against the wall" opens with the thesis in one couplet: "Built for this life, I don't fold under pressure/And every setback turned into something better." Good line. After it the album spends two thirds of its runtime saying the same thing louder. "Yall make me sick", "Fucc errybody", "Get the F out my face": those titles in sequence are the posture of the front half, a closed fist held up.

"Priorities" is where the fist opens. He picks the house over the fight: "Rather watch my children smile than put another opp to sleep/I got too much on the line, I can't let emotions creep." ICE DAVIS takes a verse and the song does not sag for it. Two tracks later, "All I have" brings horns, and the early records with them: "All I have in this life is my balls and my word/How you feel, Gucci?/I feel it's me against the world." The horns are the one arrangement idea here that earns its nostalgia instead of renting it.

"Last night in ATL" is the record's longest track and the only title that suggests a scene rather than a standing. The closer is called "1017", after the imprint, which is what a rapper does when he is counting what he built. The last five songs are the album; the eleven before them are the habit.

It is for the listener who has stayed through the 2020s records and wants the reflection without the sermon. Set it beside the late-career work that trades menace for steadiness, the kind where the money is settled and the subject is what is left. Tracks two through eleven are the volume. The album starts at twelve.

What does not work is the ratio. Eleven songs run at one temperature and three guests do little; the record's best idea, family over conflict, waits until it is two thirds gone. "Fucc errybody" is the clearest case: a title no other song here bothers to answer, sitting a few tracks ahead of a man saying he would rather watch his children smile. That contradiction is the interesting part, and the album notices it too late to test it.

Three out of five. The half point it nearly earns belongs to the horns and to "Priorities", and the rest of the wait is the toll. Eighteen albums in, the case is still worth making. He just keeps leaving it until the twelfth song.
