Live, Vol. Three gives mewithoutYou's road years a proper object
A 17-track live collage from the 2019-2022 tours, with a vinyl edition that treats the catalog as something worth keeping.

The shows come from the road between 2019 and 2022. Michael Lane recorded and mixed them, Hans DeKline mastered. The playlist mirrors a full concert: 17 songs from ‘Torches Together’ to ‘The Cure for Pain,’ with room for a one-minute ‘Brownish Spider’ and a ‘Rainbow Signs’ that runs past six minutes.
An audience-oriented live album has to give something back, and this one does. The sequence runs like a concert, not a greatest-hits set, and it expects you to keep up. 'Wolf Am I (And Shadow)' is under three minutes. 'In a Sweater Poorly Knit' is nearly twice that. 'The King Beetle on a Coconut Estate' comes close to six minutes. You don't need the group's catalog to feel the breadth, but the record gives you more if you already know it.
The weak spot is context. The record is compiled from concerts spanning several seasons, and there is no song-by-song listing of which night yielded which take. The physical release gets real attention: the CD and tape arrive in September 2026, while the 180g two-record set with a pictorial narrative waits until 2027. That split makes the vinyl the thing to wait for, which suits the project, though it is rough on anyone who only wants the audio.
Is it a 3 or a 4? A 3 would be a live record that serves as catalogue filler. This one reaches higher. It gathers 17 live songs, puts them in a deliberate order, and gives them a physical edition with real weight. That is a collection worth waiting for. It will not win over newcomers, and it does not try to. Live, Vol. Three is for the crowd that already knows every lyric, and it treats that crowd well.
