BY JOLT Staff · OCT 10 2026 · 1 min readPower Trip's first new music in eight years is two songs and a new frontman. 'Precinct 3' and 'Scavenger' are out on Blue Grape Music, the first release on the label and the first recordings since Riley Gale died in 2020. Three minutes sixteen, three minutes forty six.
The Dallas band made its name on Manifest Decimation in 2013 and Nightmare Logic in 2017, and put out a standalone track for the Adult Swim Singles Collection in 2018. Seth Gilmore took the mic in 2023, with Blake Ibanez, Chris Ulsh, Nick Stewart and Chris Whetzel around him.
“Recording worked out really well for us because he has the knowledge of making these big records, but also comes from the late 80s extreme metal underground.”
Both tracks were cut at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, with Jacob Hansen producing. Chris Ulsh, on the sessions: "Recording worked out really well for us because he has the knowledge of making these big records, but also comes from the late 80s extreme metal underground."
Past that, everything is guarded: no lyric sheet, no track by track, only the titles and seven minutes and two seconds between them. Two songs is a short answer to whether the band still runs without Gale in front of it. They still sound like Power Trip, which is the point and the limit.
It is for the people who wore out Nightmare Logic and want the band to have survived the silence.
The flaw is the shape. A limited 7-inch and a Record Store Day Black Friday pressing with alternate artwork, out 27 November, sell the same two songs twice. As a rebuild, it is a handshake.
A new album is due in spring 2027. Live dates: Mexico City with Slayer on 21 October, Fort Worth on 24 October, New Orleans on 20 November. Three and a half: they are back, and it is not yet clear what for.
