Sextile's "Women Respond to Bass" was a standout on last year's yes, please. Schwefelgelb take it and send it back more club-forward than they found it. The remix is out on Sacred Bones, original included.

Sextile are Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto, an LA electronic project formed in 2015 after the pair left Brooklyn. The move toward the floor has been steady: A Thousand Hands in 2015, the synth-punk of Albeit Living in 2017, more electronics on the 3 EP, then Push on Sacred Bones in 2023, where dance music stopped being decoration. yes, please followed on May 2, 2025.

“We're constantly playing their tracks when we DJ, so having them remix 'Women Respond to Bass' is an honor. There's already a natural crossover between what we both do, and it's sick hearing them take the track and completely make it their own.”
SEXTILE, ON THE SCHWEFELGELB REMIX

Sextile say they have been fans of Schwefelgelb for years, have wanted to make something together, and play the duo's tracks in their DJ sets. They call the crossover natural, and on paper it is.

The remix is the longer of the two, 3:56 against the original's 2:46, and it delivers the club-forward reading the pairing promised. The album cut pointed at a floor and a system.

It is for anyone who has followed Sextile since Push and wants them at their most physical, and for listeners who arrived through the EBM and darkwave end of the catalogue. If you want the song as it was, the second track is right there.

What does not work is the size of the thing. One new track with a 2025 album cut behind it is a thin single, and the remix relocates the song rather than arguing with it. Fine for a DJ set, lighter as a release.

Three and a half, then: the job done properly by two acts who share a floor, on a single that gives you one new thing. Worth the four minutes.
