underscores: four minutes of pop with the wiring visible
Her first release since U: a self-produced single on one side, a Frost Children remix of The Peace on the other.
BY JOLT Staff · SEP 1 2026 · 1 min read"Unlimited Love" is underscores' first new music since U, and it does not sit where the last record left it. She wrote, produced, mixed and mastered it alone, so the whole chain stayed in one pair of hands.
Since fishmonger in 2021 and Wallsocket in 2023 she has kept pulling pop apart and keeping what works. U, nine tracks, arrived in March and pushed her further into pop without sanding off the strange edges, and this single continues that push.
It lands on Mom+Pop on 28 August, two tracks. "Unlimited Love" runs 4:12 and has already been in the live show, teased through the 20 sold-out North American dates she played in May and June, including the Fonda Theatre and Terminal 5. The second half is "The Peace (Frost Children Remix)", which follows the original track's video from earlier this month.
The palette is wide: dubstep, future bass, jazz chords and guitar feeding into each other, sounds that do not usually share a room. It is U's appetite for disparate material, aimed harder at pop. The writing circles transience, malls, airports and hotels, places built for people who are leaving, and the track refuses to hold one shape for its runtime.
It is for anyone who followed U through its turns, and for the crowd she meets as main support on all 12 dates of Charli xcx's Music, Fashion, Film tour.
The flaw is the format. Half of this is a remix of a track whose video landed weeks ago, so the second side reads as a second look rather than a second song. Fine as a second look, but it is still a revisit.
That leaves the A-side carrying it. A 4: pop with the wiring left visible, mixed and mastered by the person who wrote it, from an artist who keeps the exits open.
