Joyce Manor's debut gets a chapter in Andrew Sacher's 'Emo Revival' book

An excerpt from Andrew Sacher's new book 'Emo Revival' spotlights Joyce Manor's self-titled debut, recorded for about $800. The album surfaced January 4, 2011 via 6131, premiered the same day on Punk News.

Barry Johnson wrote closer 'Constant Headache' on a bus ride. "It was just a super inspired moment," he says. He wasn't sure anyone would get it: "I kinda thought people would laugh. It was super vulnerable." At three minutes and four seconds, it remained the band's longest song.

That day also marked Joyce Manor's first show with Algernon Cadwallader, at San Diego's Ché Café. "I honestly remember being like, Holy shit. I instantly loved it," Algernon's Joe Reinhart says of first hearing the band. At the time, Joyce Manor was the only non-hardcore act on 6131.
