M(h)aol drop 'Scam Manifesto', first new music since Something Soft

Irish post-punkers M(h)aol shared 'Scam Manifesto', a one-off single, on September 8. This is their first new music since last year's Something Soft, the album that followed their Merge/Tulle signing.

Since that release, M(h)aol lost a member and now work as a trio. Former member Sarah Deegan, now of Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra, returns here for backing vocals. Frontperson Constance Keane wrote the song during a social media break: 'My entire feed was "how to lose the last 5 lbs" and obituaries for people I didn't know'. She calls it about 'the guilt I feel about my own hypocrisy', the gap between public stances on aging and appearance and private fixation.

Keane co-directed the video with Col Lee, Ginny Davies and Jill Wheeler. It follows a night out with a grotesque caricature, a literalized distorted self-image, and ends with a making-of segment. The single is out now.
