BY JOLT Staff · Sep 11 2026 · 1 min readModest Mouse and My Morning Jacket have contributed their tracks to the Heart Of Gold Neil Young tribute series. The two volumes, Heart Of Gold: The Songs Of Neil Young, Vol. 2 - Out Of The Blue and Vol. 3 - Into The Black, come out November 6, after last year's Volume I. Modest Mouse covers "Barstool Blues," from Young's 1975 album Zuma, collaborating with Chicago band Califone. My Morning Jacket tackles "Like A Hurricane," which Young penned in 1975 but released on 1977's American Stars 'N Bars.
My Morning Jacket recorded alongside Preservation Hall Jazz Band and producer Ross Hogarth in New Orleans, live at Marigny Studios. Isaac Brock referred to the cover as "a stressful honor," and settled on "Barstool Blues" after abandoning "Cortez The Killer" as too time-consuming. "I made it go Kraut," he said.
King Princess’ rendition of “Helpless” plus Jaco Rosa’s “After The Gold Rush” have already been released. The proceeds go to The Bridge School nonprofit, which Neil and Pegi Young founded. Pre-orders are available before the November 6 launch.
