Sam Hoyek's debut EP arrives, and lands Album of the Week
The Montréal-based Syrian artist's six-track debut moves through dark ambient, breakcore and post-metal, cut from improvisations and rebuilt.
BY JOLT Staff · Sep 24 2026 · 1 min readSam Hoyek released his debut EP, demonstration_01: anomalous, earlier this year. The Syrian artist and musician is based in Montréal, and the record runs six tracks through dark ambient, breakcore, post-metal and electronic collage.
Most of it started as loosely structured improvisations, then got edited, processed and pulled apart. Piano, strings and voices meet distorted guitar, breakbeats and digital interference across the runtime. The EP was selected as Album of the Week, and Mixmag premiered the closing track, postcore.
Hoyek also put together postcore_mix01 for Radio Alhara, a DJ mix that moves through free jazz, metal, ambient, rap and nightcore. The record is streaming on his own Bandcamp, where listings show a release date of May 15, 2026.
