The Yummy Fur end 28-year silence with new album

The Yummy Fur will release Everybody Talks About The Weather on 25 September, their first album of new material in 10,175 days. The follow-up to 1998's Sexy World arrives after the trio of John McKeown, Paul Thomson, and Brian MacDougall recorded it in five days.

McKeown, who has led the band since 1992, admits he never planned to write new Yummy Fur songs. 'When I tried it, the first attempts were terrible. They were like Yummy Fur-lite, it sounded like a tribute band that wasn't very good.' He says an essay by Susan Sontag helped: 'She was railing against people trying to put meaning on art. So I took that as a rallying cry: Susan Sontag says it's okay to not make sense.'

The group has played occasional live shows since 2009 and put out a compilation, Piggy Wings, in 2019. Nothing beyond the album's release is announced.
