Kiasmos's II Reworked: three teams, one careful running order

A 12-track rework album with three teams in charge, released through Erased Tapes. The running order does the arguing.

II Reworked, the new Kiasmos album, is a 12-track set released through Erased Tapes on July 3, 2026. It is not a new Kiasmos record in the usual sense. Three outside teams take existing Kiasmos material and shape it into their own versions. The tracklist maps the division cleanly: Alex Somers takes Grown, Bound and Sworn; Rachika Nayar and Nina Keith take Burst, Sailed, Laced, Flown and Dazed; Kjartan Holm and Sin Fang take Spun, Told and Squared. The last track shares the album's title. The credits are specific, not vague; each timed track names its reworker, so the record reads as a set of rooms, not a single gesture.

The record's strongest argument, on the page, is pacing. Seven of the twelve tracks stay under five minutes, and the short cuts cluster around the middle. The two longest tracks are Somers reworks: Grown runs 7:01 and Bound runs 6:42. That gives the album two weight-bearing sections, with Sworn's 4:15 as a shorter release after Bound. Nayar and Keith get five tracks between 3:13 and 4:18, which makes the center move quickly. Holm and Sin Fang anchor the final stretch with Told at 5:40 and Squared at 6:43. The shape is deliberate: the longest timed cut opens the album, and the untimed title track closes it. It is a running order with actual structure, not a pile of versions thrown in sequence.

The limit is also structural. A rework collection asks the listener to trust that the original material earned this much attention, and the album gives no direct access to those originals. That is a reasonable risk, but it is still a risk. The final track, named II Reworked, arrives with no listed runtime in the verified data, so the album ends on an open door. It could be a quiet landing or a formal handoff; the listing will not say. That ambiguity is fine in theory, but it keeps the record from selling the necessity of its own existence.

That is why II Reworked lands at 3.5. The structure is disciplined, the rework teams are given distinct zones, and the pacing shows a clear hand. But the record stays a collection of versions, not a closed statement. The pieces are there; the case is not quite made.
