Bob Dylan meets Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican
Dylan brought his memoir. The pope gave him a rosary. Both wore the meeting lightly.
BY JOLT Staff · Nov 4 2026 · 1 min readBob Dylan met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Wednesday. Vatican News reported the two shared "greetings and a few lighthearted remarks." Dylan arrived in his finest black hoodie.
The gifts ran in both directions. Dylan gave the pope a copy of his memoir, Chronicles: Volume One. He got a rosary in return.
The timing is not nothing. A few months before the meeting, Pope Leo quoted lyrics from Dylan's unreleased 1963 song "Go Away You Bomb" while warning against global rearmament and nuclear weapons. It was Dylan's second papal encounter: he performed songs for John Paul II in 1997. Whether Chronicle Two came up is unrecorded.
