Gilla Band announce fourth album Pugnello

Gilla Band have announced Pugnello, their fourth album and first since 2022's Most Normal. It lands on Rough Trade on 25 September, recorded over four years and three studios.

The band also shared a 20-track playlist of influences, available only to Subscriber Plus tier members. Guitarist Daniel Fox said the drum machine they bought after Most Normal became a compositional tool: the second thing they tried with it became "The Gallop."

Fox traced the band's pull toward dance music to texture rather than style, naming Aphex Twin's "Carn Marth" and Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter as touchstones. Time off the road went elsewhere: painting, producing for Sprints and Mandy, Indiana, drumming for Lankum, and collaborations with Faris Badwan, Miss Grit and MC Elucid. Nothing else on the album is announced.
