Markus Breuss streams Farben, with field recordings and a goat horn
The Swiss-born, Spain-based trumpeter and composer has a new album up in full on Bandcamp, built from collage, electronics and things borrowed.
BY JOLT Staff · Nov 3 2026 · 1 min readMarkus Breuss has released Farben, a new album streaming in full at astronomyrecordingmusic.bandcamp.com. The Swiss-born, Spain-based composer and trumpeter has worked across free jazz, electroacoustics, chamber composition, collage, electronics and free improvisation, and Farben pulls from most of them at once.
The record folds together field recordings made in New York and Izhevsk, borrowed musical phrases, texts by Ibn Battuta and the Catholic Monarchs, and a Lithuanian goat horn. That is the material list; the mix of it is the piece. Breuss is a trumpeter, so the horn sits somewhere in the grain of this, as a lead line or one voice among the tapes and the electronics.
El Pais once described him as something like a mix of Pink Floyd and Stockhausen. The album is up on his Bandcamp page and it is complete, which is the way to hear it once before deciding what it is.
