MJ Lenderman covers Neil Young and writes a foreword for Harry Crews
Lenderman's take on "Separate Ways" lands on a Neil Young tribute comp, and his introduction to a Penguin Classics edition of Crews' Body follows next week.

It appears on Heart Of Gold: The Songs Of Neil Young, Vol. 3 - Into The Black, one of two volumes in the tribute series that arrived the same day, alongside Vol. 2 - Out Of The Blue.
The song comes from Young's 2020 LP Homegrown. Lenderman had played it live before, along with Young's "Lotta Love" and "Powderfinger," so the studio version isn't a cold read. It's a cover he already knew how to hold.
The release shares a day with a different kind of Lenderman writing. The Paris Review published his foreword for the Penguin Classics edition of Harry Crews' 1990 novel Body online on the day of the release. The full edition arrives next week.
Lenderman debuted new songs at Good Moon Festival last month.
