Giant Drag release "Song For My Funeral" weeks after Hardy faked her death

BY JOLT Staff · Oct 22 2026 · 1 min readGiant Drag released a new single, "Song For My Funeral," on October 22. It arrives a few weeks after Annie Hardy, who runs the long-standing LA indie rock project, faked her own death in an online hoax.
The song itself is older than the stunt. Hardy says she wrote it several years ago after reading a DM from a stalker, which ended: "I'm a father and a husband which makes it even more upsetting I should have to die. Well, leaving Monday. See you soon." She had wanted to record it with an orchestra. The released version is solo acoustic, spare, just Hardy and a guitar. "I thought if only for a second we could all shift dimensional realities together and maybe find new appreciation for one another," she said.
The black-and-white video, directed by Joe Cardamone, has Hardy arm-wrestling a run of opponents, former MTV VJ Jesse Camp among them. Cardamone, formerly of Icarus Line, also produces the forthcoming Giant Drag record that will carry the single. No title or date for that record is announced.
