Kristin Hersh announces twelfth solo album Sugar On Blackstone
The record draws on her Rhode Island childhood and the 2025 death of her friend Domonick Knight.
BY JOLT Staff · Sep 10 2026 · 1 min readKristin Hersh is set to release Sugar On Blackstone, her twelfth solo album, on September 10, 2026. The announcement lists Providence, Rhode Island as the record's setting, and its songs draw from Hersh's childhood there: her family relocated from Atlanta when she was six, and "Dark Eyed Junco" concerns staying out late with her brother to escape a stepfather who frightened them.
One song addresses the 2025 death of her friend Domonick Knight, killed during a standoff with police. "He was one of my sunshine people," Hersh says. "He's the last person in the world I would have expected to disappear this way, in a hail of gunfire." She describes the album cautiously: "It's self-expression, I want to say, which I've always been against."
Pete Harvey performs on cello, while Rob Ahlers handles drums on several tracks. It comes after 2023's Clear Pond Road. No label, tour dates, or tracklist have been revealed.
